So a coworker asked me about changing her oil in her 09 jetta. Reluctantly i said yes (after reading all the horror stories of helping 'friends' with their car problems). Having never put so much as a flashlight on a Volkswagen, an oil and filter change was simple as can be. I could probably do it in 30 mins or less the next time. I do like how VW has their oil filter setup. A nice clean drain valve makes it pleasurable to do an oil change. Those germans are spot on!
Plus i needed some extra cash. I told her pay me what you feel is right. She gave me 25. Im fine with that number, but you guys think thats overpaying?

Might I suggest asking her to crawl underneath teaching her for a little less scratch?
If she wants to learn, fantastic, if not you've got a least one customer.
Great Story.

$50 an hour? Not bad, still cheaper than shop rate by a good margin.

I was trying to get to that point in conversation. But, this girl has no interest in cars. And kept saying 'when can i drop it off... when should i swing by". The other reasoning was i had never worked on a jetta, so i didnt want to appear to be a complete bafoon if by chance i got to a point where i'm like "oh this doesnt look right" or "hmm, im gonna have to google this". That would definitely lower her trust in my work.
I did however show her how to properly check oil levels, and where to put oil in if she ever has to do that. So i feel like it wasnt completely in vain.

Took me just under 2 hours cause she only brought over 5qts of oil instead of the 6.3 (7qts) needed.... So i had to wait for that. But i felt it was easy work.

She bought the stuff. No way was i paying for an oil change unless i was totally in love with the girl haha. She is cute, but im definitely not into her.

That's the same amount for the Hemi in my 300, and she's a 5.7!

So it's probably all good then. Carry on.

And now the next question. Which of the three people in the above gif do you think is the craziest? Pilot, rider, or photographer?

VW thinks that everything needs 7 quarts. On the VR6, it does help with cooling in some parts of the head, so I get it there.

On the very very very very very very very rare occasions that I do side work I get $10-20 for oil changes depending on the car and its owner. Usually takes me 10-15 minutes. If I do the math, I get roughly $8-32 (or more like $75 for an SLS, because dry sump) for oil changes at work depending on the car and whether or not it has some sort of maintenance plan.

Interesting. And dang you can do fast oil changes. Im assuming you have lots of the specific tools on hand and use a lift? One day maybe ill get it done that fast. Im not a mechanic by any means, but i do most of my own work, so im learning as i go.
for 10-20$ though it doesnt seem like its even worth the time, unless of course you are doing it for a friend kind of thing.

I think the one I'm least concerned with is the pilot. He's got the most protection. But I think it might be a toss up between the rider and cameraman. I think that plane probably passes within 3-4 feet of him, and he doesn't even flinch.

as a photographer, you can never flinch! You have to be able to get the shot. I know when im shooting stuff, i tend to feel like im not even there (in person), forgetting about everything else around me. He is probably so focused on the shot he doesnt realize just how dangerously close the plane gets.

Fast? Remember I do this for a living lol. Just about every tool for every job imaginable. And yeah, lifts. I do it at work or a friend's home shop.
That amount of money isn't really worth it, but I can't justify any more. Like I said, very rare. And yeah, only for close friends and family. And most of my family lives over 2000 miles away, not including the wife's side of the family.
